After experiencing the nightmare known as 2020, it’s hard to tell what 2021 will have in store. If there’s one thing that I wish I knew at the beginning of 2020, it would be to prioritize my personal growth. Quarantining at home for months, multiple job closures and college classes online, it was the perfect time to focus on myself. Buuut instead, I spent most of my time feeling stressed, anxious, and unmotivated. I can’t blame myself, and neither should you, if you feel the same way; it was an adjustment that we never imagined we would have to make.
And as much as we went through in 2020, I am grateful for it because it made me come to this realization that I will be focusing on growth in 2021.
Why Growth?
I’m not a fan of New Year’s resolutions, because they’re usually focused on a final product. By making my goal to grow, I’m focusing on the process instead. Personal growth means getting to know myself on a deeper level, increasing my self-awareness and my self-confidence, developing my strengths and improving on my weaknesses, and so much more.
How to Focus on Growth
It seems overwhelming at first, because growth can mean so many different things. There are a few ways that I plan on breaking it down.
- Daily reflection. I have written a decent amount of blog posts about journaling and I really believe that it can be soo beneficial. By writing about each day, you’re thinking back on the good parts, the bad parts, things you maybe could’ve done differently, but most importantly learning. And if you’re in need of a cute journal, check out my brand new Etsy shop that will be regularly updated with new designs 😉
- Read self-help books. I have quite the collection of self-help books that I plan on getting through this year. This is one thing that always inspires me to better myself.
- Find a hobby. Having something outside of work that you genuinely love to do can make you so much happier! And if you don’t know what your hobbies are, just try out different things and you’ll gain so much life experience.
- Learn from the past. I am one of those people who constantly thinks back on something embarrassing that happened years ago. But honestly, learning from your mistakes is one of the best ways to learn.
By focusing on growth in 2021, you could make improvements to yourself that will better your life for a long time! If you have goals to grow this year, how do you plan on getting there? Let me know your tips on personal growth in the comments!
I love this so much! “Grow” is also a word I chose to focus on for 2021
Thanks, Natalia! I think that is so important this year
